Gas prices still falling, but remains much higher than last year

UTICAOD -- You might want to ask for a gas card this Christmas: Prices at the pump are dropping, but they're still at an all-time high for this time of year.

Prices have declined for 12 straight days nationwide primarily because supplies are rising at a time when demand generally falls, said AAA Spokesman Michael Green.

The average cost for a gallon of regular gasoline in the Utica-Rome area was $4.01 Tuesday, about 9 cents lower than last week, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.
Still, it's about 32 cents higher than last year.

Prices generally drop at the end of the summer driving season and continue to do so until the end of the year. But this year, the decline has been delayed due to disruptions in supply including refinery fires and weather such as Hurricane Isaac, Green said.

Greed, speculation, and gouging are the only explanation for today's gas prices!

@ddwilz - You"re not broke yet? You must have a secure job and in the 28% tax bracket or whatever. Millions of U.S. citizens are out of work. Thanks to Obama and the unregulated speculators in commodity markets. I sincerely hope that Obama doesn't win another four years in the presidential office and that Helicopter Ben gets fired. I fear that the ignorant majority of the citizens of the U.S. will re-elect Obama. SAD!!!

Speculators have a free rein in the price of oil and gas. They act on any hiccup in news, relevant or not, to drive prices higher. Speculators have knee jerk reactions to rumors, they never wait for hard news to justify their actions. Smarmy barstads!

Gas prices should not be going up and down because of a political election. There is no direct connection to pricing!

It just goes to show ya what shutting down and blowing up refineries will do.

Besides that, there's the annual mark up due to inflation up and down the food chain. Let's not forget taxes!

Iran is the elephant in the oil price room. It has kept pressure on the price. Should is fizzle the speculators will find another reason to buy contracts and push up prices "A Broker Farted in the Elevator Today, Oil Moves Higher'. However if Iran comes to blows, we will talk to our kids 'Do you remember a few years ago when gas was under $5 a gallon?'
