I was all for conservation and saving the planet for future generations, but even our new leadership ( HA! HA!) isn't making the decisions that are necessary for the correct changes. Why comply when all our tax money is given to a bunch of irresponsible clowns that caused the crisis we are in and are taking us down the same road. The oil companies don't care they think nothing of faking shortages and claiming were running out of oil just to raise prices. I'm going to make my summer this year the best ever and to Hell with all those who don't care about the rest of us, the tax paying public who actually pay for everything. I only hope that the majority wakes up soon and holds our leadership responsible for the mess were in now and the worse mess comming up if change is not made.

Just came back from the upper pan handle of FL. I am taking advantage of the cheeper prices in and around FLorida. I have lived here all my life but not until lately have I really look at what FLorida has to offer.
Being retired I am able to take week day trips and not have to worry about the crowds.
Cheeper hotels and restaurants prices are all around us.
Did you know FLorida has caverns and waterfalls !!
I ride the back roads and smell the country side..
I plan on 6 or more future trips untill the prices start going up again. Fuel no problem on a MOTORCYCLE..
WAKE UP AMERICA..

airduct, I know you were addressing both myself and the other poster. My question to you reflected this: How is what I said a "stupid rant"? It is clear why the other comments were stupid, and I explain why very succintly.

And I am sorry, no offense or annoyance intended, but when idiotic crap like that gets said or posted anywhere, it needs to be smacked down, head on.

I'm going to take a lot, probably more than the four I listed, but I'll be doing so, on my motorcycle at 42mpg and camping to save even more money.
Going to do my best to take trips as cheaply as possible while still enjoying myself.

Love to camp. We go usually take a long weekend two times a month (use our vacation days on Fridays) With the price of gas we are camping closer and closer to home. Towing with a Ford Excursion (V-10 gas guzzler) and 34 foot travel trailer. Love the weekends.

I'm only planning one road trip this summer to Albuquerque, New Mexico. The price of gas is definitely a factor in this decision.

Davidsfr -- If you will please notice I did not direct my comments just to you. I said both. One way to promote your beliefs is to ignore those that rant about theirs. Why help them publicize. The way this forum is designed your posts get buried soon enough.

I plan on going on 2-3 this summer. A pair of these trips is going to be a long weekend to visit some friends; each of which is going to be 10+ hour drive. I still look at driving as a cheap alternative to flying which will cost each person 200+ dollars oppose to driving which will be only 40-80, depending upon how many people you split the ride with...

One every weekend I do not have to work...But then I ride a motorcycle so a 250 miloe road trip is 5 gallons of gas. We have taken the camper out 3 times so far this year and Have 4 more trips scheduled thru the end of July. Airduct, I am not the one who made the initial comments (Obama caused the dealerships to close; we can be oil independent if the environmentalists just get out of the way). We all need to stand up to that kind of extremist thinking wherever we confront it, political thread or not.

I'll be traveling around town as the daily routine requires. The most unpleasant of my stops will be at the gas gastion as pump prices have recently skyrocketed. Since the beginning of the year, pump prices have risen $1.00 with $0.90 of the price increase occuring in the past month.

Its going to be another long and finacially crippling summmer. Conserve the best you can.

Looking forward to a nice summer after all the snow this winter. We have planned two vacations--one to Florida and one to Mountain Run at Boyne Mountatin over Labor Day weekend. We are driving to Detroit to catch a plane to Florida---then, renting a car for a week. It will be interesting to compare gas price here to there.

I spent two weeks of my vacation recovering from cancer surgery after I used up my sick leave days. Yes, I could have gone on short-term disability; but who can live on 60% of their paycheck? The remainder of my vacation I plan on taking at Christmas when my goddaughter gets married in Hawaii. I won't be driving to that one!

Maybe you should read the voting poll discussion title....

Who cares about your rant, it has nothing to do with title of this discussion.

The two of you were just on your stump preaching..

Take it to the politics board where it belongs if you want to have at it with each other.

The ignore will work for you just as well.

Airduct, why don't you just ignore me if I bother you so much?

And just how is my post "stupid"? Is anything about it wrong?

It certainly is stupid to say environmentalists are keeping us from being "oil independent" when we only have 3% of the oil reserves in the world but use 25%--I mean that just makes no sense, it is totally removed from facts.

Please tell me anything I said that makes no sense and is totally removed from facts.

I am back dczh, and there is an awful lot wrong with your statements.

First, this:

"Get the environmentalists out of the way and we could be oil independent nearly. Sure we need to ensure we don't destroy an area just for oil or gas, but we need to look at the consequences of not taking advantage of the resources as well."

We use 25% of the oil reserves in the world, we have less than 3% on our soil, how is this even remotely possible? This is terribly flawed thinking and makes me think you are not wasting another second on, but just to show how wrong you are that I wouldn't be back to see responses . . .

"You have to be kidding to believe that the current administartion taking over the auto industry is the best way to go. Government take over is never good, no matter the consequences.
I read an editorial commentary recetly that suggested that if we have no failures, we have no incentive to work harder, innovate."

Apparently you aren't aware of the great many incidences when temporary government intervention has indeed turned companies and the overall economy around. You mention Chrysler and the Airlines. Chrysler has indeed been profitable between 1979 and now, there current troubles are not directly related to the problems they had in the 70s. And while some airlines that have received government help have failed regarldess, others have emerged successfully (Delta is just one example).

"If you wonder what this has to do with gas prices, we may pay a higher price for gas in base price as well as taxes to pay for all of this or to pay for th ecar company's new models that they will be forced to make and not many will be intersted in. I for one, will not buy a car that I cannot get into, hence I drive an F-150 pickup primarily."

Again, 25% of the world's oil reserves, 3% on our soil. What does it take to get you to understand: WE NEED OTHER SOURCES OF ENERGY! WE NEED TO CONSERVE THE RESOURCES WE HAVE. And why do you assume driving more efficient energy vehicles will mean you can't fit into them? I am 6'3" and I fit fine in a Mercury Sable, much smaller than your gas guzzler truck.

One point you are right about is mismanagement at Chrysler and GM, but the whole population does not deserve to suffer as a result of the mistakes of a few. The extremist laizzies-faire policies (sorry I don't have time to check the spelling) of the Bush administration and the repubs who controlled congress from 2001-2006 led to the economic debacle, we don't deserve another Great Depression because of it.

Our government will be out of the car and financial services businesses soon enough, thankfully we now have leaders who realize that sometimes, regretably, some level of government intervention is the only way to avert crisis (think Hoover vs. Roosevelt, and study REAL history, for further proof of that).

One road trip July 4 weekend. 1050 miles round trip. At 35 mpg and $2.50 a gallon that would be $75 for gas.
